About this event
This program is designed to help students and postdocs from UC San Diego, the Sanford Consortium and Salk Institute better understand the broader context of their research, including the goals of their labs, the translational impact their work can have on society, and how their research aligns with the overarching missions of major funding agencies such as the NSF, NIH, DOE and DOD. Through a combination of seminars, case studies, workshops and team-based projects on Tuesdays from June 30 to September 1, 2026, participants will gain the skills needed to define research initiatives that address major scientific and societal challenges, with a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary integration.
Alumni of this program will have a broader perspective on their day-to-day work in the lab and recognize the greater impact their research can have as they identify translational opportunities. Additionally, participants may discover opportunities to leverage the technologies they help develop, potentially contributing to the formation of startup ventures in the short or long term. The course also equips participants with foundational knowledge of company formation, intellectual property transfer, customer discovery, business models and financing. To enroll in “Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education for Everyone (Section ID: 197166), visit in the course’s UC San Diego Extended Studies page. For a $50 discount code, use SUMMERBUSA26, before June 12, 2026.
